For 7000 years humble tufts of cotton have been woven and knitted into durable textiles and clothing. For thousands of years and to this day, processing those cotton tufts into fabric is done by “carding”, which involves disentangling the fibers to prepare it for spinning into usable yarns to produce regular cotton.

It wouldn’t be till the early 1900’s that the additional processing of “combing” would be invented. Combed cotton is higher quality and softer than regular cotton. The “combing” process removes the short broken fibers and impurities, creating a smooth and more durable fiber.

With two centuries worth of knowledge and technology, combed cotton is prized in the manufacturing of apparel because of its strength, absorbency and soft smooth feel. The combing process now turns regular renewable cotton into a premium soft material less prone to pilling and tearing.
